Bhagat Singh and literature

In the early stages of our research, we came across a couple of sites run by academic organizations in India that have sites dedicated to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji. I wanted to share a piece from one of these websites. Its an essay written by Singh in which he examines the correlation between the poetic/literary vitality of a community and its corresponding revolutionary/progressive momentum.

Jake and I will share some of our own thoughts on this essay, but until then, I wanted to share it as I find the thesis fascinating, and I do not know of any other figure who has brought this analysis to bear on Sikh history and literature in particular.

Enjoy:

Humble Beginnings

Hello Everyone. I want to welcome you to the Bhagat Singh Project.

A few years back, I met my dear friend Jake at a bar in San Francisco, where he first proposed the idea of writing a book about Bhagat Singh. Immediately, our shared enthusiasm for the possibility became evident, as we riffed on topics, angles and audiences.

Sometimes, life gets in the way of the best conceived ideas. However, Jake and I are fortunate enough to have revisited the idea at a time when we can both actually get down to it.

This blog will be a means for us to chronicle our progress. I am not entirely sure what all will be posted here, as it seems prudent that I save some content for the actual final product. But for those interested in the life and thought of one of the great heroes and patriots of Indian history, follow along and we will see what happens.
